Siberian Star

  • JOB OPENING.  Siberian Star Rescue is in need of a new rescue curator, due to health problems.  This job includes a house with acreage and funding to run the rescue operation.  The assets are held in trust by a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.  This opportunity is NOT a "job".  He is turning over a million dollars worth of assets to someone for free.  (70 acres, cars, log cabins, tractors, fenced dog yards, equipment, etc. etc.)  This opportunity is for the person who was going to do this anyway.  Read more about it in this letter here.  If you have an interest, contact Robert Hudson, MySiberianStar@aol.com .

  • Currently available:
    • "Talon" -- Female, pure white, woolly coated, brown eyes, 2 to 3 years old, spayed.  Has not been to the vet since the owner got her.  Seems healthy.  Extremely sweet, loving, and playful.  Loves other dogs!  Very hungry for attention and love. Somewhat skittish due to her past history.  Rescued from a couple that the owner used to consider friends.  The story of abuse is horrific -- she was beaten, neglected, and SEVERELY traumatized.  Her fear of men was deeply ingrained, especially tall men.  The rescuer's male cousin (6 ft.) who lives with her terrified the dog in the beginning.  For the first 2 months, she wouldn't let him near her,  By the 3rd month she would let him pet her, but she would shake.  Her progress seemed so slow that it was feared she would never be able to be comfortable around men.  However, she has come around!  The cousin can walk her, love her, pet her.  She even will let a male stranger pet her now.  But of course, she still prefers ladies, and it is preferred that she go to a home with a female owner.  Unfortunately, she might not be suitable with children.  One day she was around 2 children age 3 & 4 and she nibbled on them.  Whenever she goes on walks she is especially interested in children.  The owner is just not comfortable with how she would be around a child.  She has 2 other dogs of her own already , and 3 has proven to be way too much for one person.  The goal was to rehabilitate her and find her a home; she thinks she is finally ready.  For more information, contact: Rachael Bommicino, 678-371-8449, rachy77@gmail.com
    • "Ruthie" -- Female, grey, tan, and white, bi-eyed.  Current on shots and on heartworm medication.  Taken in about 1 1/2 years ago and brought back to health.  Now it's time to find her a permanent home.  Adores humans.  Good with other dogs, but wants to be the sole pet.  Not so good with cats.  Likes to jump up on people; they are trying to break her of this habit right now, but probably not a good idea to be around small children because of this.  Currently an outside dog as when she gets overly excited she will pee on the floor.  This could clear up over time.  Needs to have a well fenced yard.  Rescuer is willing to deliver to a vetted home within 8 hour driving distance.  Expect to be questioned extensively.  For more information, contact Anna Hancox, anna.hancox@yahoo.com.
    • "Sophie" -- Female, sable, bi-eyed, 0 to 6 months old, not yet spayed.  Up-to-date on all vaccinations, including rabies.  Currently on heartworm medication and Advantix flea and tick control.  Sophie seems to love everyone she meets, adults and children alike.  She is good with the owners' cats, and although she seems a little timid at first, is good with other dogs as well.  She is house-broken, crate trained, doing well on her obedience commands and leash work.  She loves a couple of long walks a day, and even walks on the treadmill for those days when the weather is bad.  Unfortunately, she is starting to exhibit strong food and/or toy aggression.  With two small children in the home, the owners don't feel that they are in a position to help her with this problem.  Although she does love kids, because of this issue, they feel that she would be better in a home with no children or older children.  For more information, contact:  Jodie, 706-618-9688, jlpack2000@yahoo.com
