  • JOB OPENING.  Siberian Star Rescue is in need of a new rescue curator, due to health problems.  This job includes a house with acreage and funding to run the rescue operation.  The assets are held in trust by a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.  This opportunity is NOT a "job".  He is turning over a million dollars worth of assets to someone for free.  (70 acres, cars, log cabins, tractors, fenced dog yards, equipment, etc. etc.)  This opportunity is for the person who was going to do this anyway.  Read more about it in this letter here.  If you have an interest, contact Robert Hudson, MySiberianStar@aol.com .

  • Currently available:
    • "Nikko" -- Female, light red and white, blue eyes, 6 to 8 years old, spayed.  Fully vetted.  Tested negative for heartworms.  Good health.  Good with people and children.  Needs socialization with other dogs, due to her long term isolation, but she's done pretty well with the posting party's dogs and the dogs she's seen on their walks.  She has spent most of her life chained to a metal pole.  Animal control has cited the owners for various violations.  They've now decided to give her up.  For more information, contact:  Gigi Weinrich, 404 218 7154, divadogs@bellsouth.net
    • "Jasmine" -- Female, black and white, blue eyes, 4 to 5 years old, un-spayed.  Current on shots and heartworm negative.  Jasmine is generally a very sweet girl.  She is extremely bright and learns tricks quickly.  Jasmine had a rough puppyhood, and does show some possessive aggression, but when surrounded by supportive, gentle individuals, she reacts in kind.  Has had very little interaction with other dogs, and mixed interactions with cats.  Jasmine and the owner's new husband do not get along well.  For more information, contact:  Stephanie, 615-525-7827, starrystephy16@aol.com
    • "Lady" -- Female, black and white, splashcoat, brown eyes, 9 to 12 years old, spayed.  Great health, vaccinated.  Kind, warm, gentle.  Owners are being relocated to Israel and cannot take Lady with them.  For more information, contact:  Ricardo Grichener, rgrichener@baranengineeringusa.com
    • "Macy" -- Female, grey and white, bi-eyed, 18 months to 2 years old, spayed.  Healthy.  Not good with other dogs or cats.  Very stubborn but sweet.  Climbs chainlink fences.  Not good with owner's other animals (mainly cats -- this is typical).  New baby in home and the owners feel they can't risk his safety.  For more information, contact:  Brad Robbins, 770-403-7164, brobb10@yahoo.com
    • "Wampa" -- Male MIX (husky/Chow), mostly black, amber eyes, 13 to 18 months old, neutered.  Heartworm positive - On Heartgard now.  Inquisitive, intelligent, medium energy, good with children.  Would do best with doggie companion as long as properly introduced.  Housetrained.  Knows "sit","stay", and "down" commands.  Not hyper, just needs a walk each day.  Walks well on leash.  Whines/barks at other dogs when on leash, but doesn't lunge.  Very loving to everyone.  Has been living as an indoor dog.  Pulled from local animal control because he had no applications and was to be put down.  Tested positive for heartworms, and EKG showed very mild/early stages (no effect on blood pressure or heart yet).  (This dog will need to be treated at some point.)  Fostered for 2 months now, and posting party has been working to make him a great house pet.  He is ready for his permanent home.  Adoption fee of $196 to cover his shots, neuter and chipping.  Receipts will be presented to substantiate this fee.  The rescuer is NOT a 501(c) rescue group.  For more information, contact:  Emily Hollomon, 478-475-4641, pinkya@uga.edu
    • "Max" -- Male, grey and white, hazel eyes, 2 to 3 years old, neutered. good health, but has only three legs.  Good tempered, but not good with livestock.  Knocks over small children.  Good with other huskies or other large dogs, but chases small animals.  Owners do not have appropriate fencing around their entire property, so Max lives in a fenced pen.  He needs a larger fenced area or someone who will take him for walks on a leash, and maybe another large dog as a companion, no small animals or kids.  They also are a small farm with chickens, turkeys and soon goats, and he has already killed several chickens that have gotten close to his pen.  For more information, contact:  Roy Ervin, 770-655-4255, massagegrl@yahoo.com
    • Two Siberians, senior females.  Dying man's last wish is that they not be separated, but placed in loving homes:
      • "Nikki" -- Dark red and white, blue eyes, 11 years old.  Spayed, current on shots.  Housebroken, good with children.
      • "Makayla" -- Black and white, blue eyes, 10 years old.  Spayed, current on shots.  Housebroken, good with children.

These dogs have never been apart the their dying owner is extremely upset about what might happen to them after his death.  So far everyone just keeps suggesting they be euthanized.  If you can provide them a good home, contact, Elaine O'Bannon, 678-715-8644.  The posting party is AlanParlato@HumaneSocietyHoCo.org, but he may not be up-to-date on the situation.

    • "Rainy" -- Female, black and white, splashcoat, blue eyes, 2 to 3 years old, spayed.  Shots current.  Sweet, but hyper.  Needs room to run.  Owner has too many animals to take care of.  For more information, contact:  Darleen, 404-433-3988, darleenterry@bellsouth.net
  • MISSING:
    • "Red" -- Female, pure white, blue eyes, 6 to 8 years old, un-spayed.  Heartworm positive but otherwise in good health.  Red is very sweet-tempered but is pretty skittish, especially around men.  The owners don't believe she would ever bite anybody, though.  Also good with kids.  Technically the dog was last seen in GA but was only a couple of miles from the TN state line, near Chattanooga, TN.  Red was in heat, and so had been taken to their parents' house to be kept away from their male because of the heartworm condition.  They felt a pregnancy could be fatal for her.  If you have any information, contact:  423 598 9638, Alicia or Michael Byrd, 423 760 0943, sunrisedawn30@yahoo.com

    • "Sara Star" -- Female, copper and white, amber eyes, 2 to 3 years old, spayed.  Current on shots.  Healthy.  Sara, or "Sassy" (nickname) has a very loving personality.  Sara has a very dominant personality.  She has lived peacefully in a small home with 2 pit bulls.  However, the pit bulls do not have alpha personalities, so it is not known if this indicates anything for other dogs.  Sara has been socialized and there is only a problem when she encounters another dog with a alpha/dominant personality.  Sara has been around children of all ages with no problems.  The current household consists of the foster mom, her fiance, and their 14 year old son.  They also have a cat that she does not bother.  Sara came in as a foster in 2008.  She has been on Petfinder with no leads.  Her foster mom loves her and it hasn't been a problem except that they have a small home, no fenced yard and live on a busy street.  Although Sara gets walks, she loves to escape and they are afraid she will get hit by a car or in a fight with another dog.  She'll be a great addition to an active family with responsible owners.  For more information, contact:  Danthia Gardner, (270) 735-2518, danthiag@hotmail.com
    • "Harley" -- Male MIX, black and cream, senior.  Deaf.  Neutered.  Will be current with shots, heartworm tested and wormed prior to adoption.  Harley has been sponsored.  A generous donor will give $50 to the reputable/approved rescue that gives him a chance.  He needs a special retirement rescue/home.  Harley was found on a cold morning in the parking lot of a shopping center with a chain attached to him.  This boy is very sweet.  Although he can not hear, he does pay attention as if he was trained to watch for commands.  Please don't let this boy linger and spend his last days in a concrete cell.  Thanks to the Shelby County No Kill Mission, Harley's health needs will be taken care of prior to adoption.  For more information, contact Shelby County Animal Shelter, Shelbyville, KY, 502-633-0009, animal.adopt@shelbycountykentucky.com
    • "Blue" -- Male, pure white, bi-eyed, 18 months to 2 years old, neutered.  Excellent health.  Submissive, outgoing, friendly, energetic, sweet.  His 72 year old owner cannot keep him any longer due to her health.  For more information, contact:  Kim Dowell, 502-876-2604, kdd0365@yahoo.com
    • "Crystal (Alue) Kodiak" -- Female, dilute black and white, blue eyes, 4 to 5 years old, spayed.  Current on shots, healthy.  She loves to run, but can jump a chain link fence.  Alue is a little slow to warm up to strangers, but prefers females, and loves children.  She only barks when strangers approach the residence.  Owners relocated to a retirement facility without a 6' foot privacy fence.  For more information, contact:  Tierra Freeman, 859-748-5487, earthtmf@aim.com

  • Currently available:
    • "Rocky" -- Male, black and white, brown eyes, 6 to 8 years old, neutered.  Healthy, up to date on shots, and on heartworm preventative.  Very sweet, friendly, laid back, and great with children (even when they poke and pull on him and try to ride him like a horse!)  No bad habits, but he is a typical husky.  He WILL run out of a gate or door that's left open and he WILL attack any cat he finds.  He is aggressive towards other dogs that enter his house and yard, but he's fine with them when they're on the other side of the chain link fence.  He would do best in a home where he's the only dog and there are no small animals he can get to.  He also needs to be allowed inside the house.  Huskies can't tolerate the summer heat, so he likes to go inside to take a cool nap.  The ideal yard would have nice shady areas where he can cool off.  He is house-trained and never causes any problems in the house.  He mostly just lounges around.  He does get frisky sometimes, especially when it's cold outside, and he loves it when the kids run around the yard with him.  The owner is 92 and has accidentally let Rocky escape many times, resulting in several unfortunate incidents with cats in the neighborhood.  He hates to let Rocky go, but any further incidents will result in him being confiscated by animal control and they cannot bear the thought of him being in a cage at the pound.  Family members cannot take him in because they all have small dogs and don't know if they could trust him with them.  But they all love Rocky and are hoping to find someone who will love him as much as they do.  For more information, contact:  Anne (225-454-7036) or Carolyn (225-274-2663), annemikemc3@eatel.net
    • "Chukchi" -- Female, black and white, splashcoat, parti-eyed, 2 to 3 years old, spayed.  In good health and has all shots.  Gets along well with other dogs, children, and adults, but not with cats.  This dog was rescued from a neglectful owner who agreed that the posting party could take her.  However, she has no yard and lives in a small townhouse.  Her intentions were to find proper placement for the husky in a colder climate with a family that would provide a fenced-in yard for her.  For more information, contact:  Linda Corley, 985-876-4282, MeherBaba2@aol.com
    • "Wolfie" -- Female, two to three years old, 42-47 pounds, HEARTWORM POSITIVE.  Not spayed.  Housebroken.  Obeys sit and stay commands.  Wolfie is very playful and loves to go for walks.  Owner is leaving for Houston in three weeks.  For more information, please contact Jessica, jdugas3@comcast.net

    • "Asher" -- Male, black and white, blue eyes, 7 to 12 months old, neutered. very healthy.  Asher is very energetic and loves to run and play.  He loves the dog park and playing fetch and tug of war.  His owner had back surgery and cannot take him for long walks or runs anymore.  He loves all people and dogs.  She has not seen him around cats but thinks he would probably want to play with them until they scratched him and then he would back off.  (Sounds risky.)  For more information, contact:  Tammie, 336-766-9748, jenich@magiste.com
    • "Alaska Jane" -- Female, pure white, parti-eyed, 2 to 3 years old, not spayed.  Frequently seen by vet and in good health.  Sweet, very lovable dog; however, she does not get along with other females and is very aggressive with them.  The owner has 4 other huskies, she has attacked and injured 3 of them after breaking out of her kennel.  She needs a home with no other dogs.  For more information, contact:  Rebecca Bunn, 919-320-4068, slmbunn@aol.com
    • "Griffin" -- Male, grey and white, bi-eyed, 18 months to 2 years old, not neutered.  Very healthy dog, but has not had shots or been to a vet in over a year.  Very sweet and gentle, grew up with children, plays with the owners' older dog and puppy (does better with a patient, easygoing dog) and gets along with the cat.  Will not do well with any sort of livestock.  Needs to be able to run, but also needs a secure enclosure.  The owners recently moved up into the mountains and no longer have any enclosed area to let the dog run.  Because of this, the dog has escaped on occasion, and has gone after a neighbor's livestock.  Since they cannot ensure that this won't happen again, the neighbor insists the dog should go, and since they are financially unable to create a proper enclosure, they feel they don't have much choice but to find a new home for him.  Will require references.  For more information, contact:  Janna, (336) 385-1186, ponyexpress15@hotmail.com
