Siberian Star Sanctuary Curator
Birmingham, Alabama

Because of health reasons, I am giving my Rescue Ranch over to someone to operate.  We are located on 70 acres south of Birmingham, Alabama, but are only using the front 20 at this time.  Below I will outline some of the basics of what I am offering to see if you might fit the model of what I am looking for.  In many of the paragraphs below my wording may come across as blunt, but I felt it was more important to write directly and candidly.  In this way you can gain a true picture of what is available and what is expected.  This is truly a dream come true for the right person.

The right person for this position is someone who would work here even if they weren't paid, because, to some extent that is true.  (But, if you truly qualify in all other areas, I will show you how to have your own personal income.)  So, you see this is not a "Job" offering.  It is an "opportunity" for someone to be "given" their own Rescue Ranch to run.  In other words, this is something you were going to do anyway.  It is just that I have started it for you.

So, you must be a true, dedicated animal rescuer.  It is not for someone who feels they would enjoy this for a while and then later look to another profession.  Instead, this would be your vocation for life.  That is a hard role to fit, but I, and my rescue friends are all of that nature.  And given all the time and effort we have spent to "hand over" all of this, we must have the right person.  And for the right person, this is a "chance in a lifetime opportunity"; it is a true dream come.  A true rescuer can come right into what would have taken them over a million dollars and years to set up.

Additionally, the personal qualifications of the applicant would be that they are a non-smoker, not have company over that smokes and all should only drink socially.  The applicant would know that rescue is a 24/7 undertaking.  So, you would manage your time to ensure the care of Siberians and your own personal time.  This will not be a place where raising a young child will work.  It would not be fair to the child; you will not have enough time for the attention they will need.  I already have 26 kids for you.

Here is what is offered.  First you would get to live in a new home that comes complete with everything.  In essence I have provided all the necessities for my successor to operate the sanctuary.  It is a "Turn-Key" operation.  It is all here; including a new Toyota 4-Runner for daily use and a GMC Conversion van that is outfitted as a Dog Transport.  All of this is set in a beautiful countryside environment of rolling pastureland with a small picnic grove out front with a large manufactured (28’) cedar gazebo to enjoy.  In the back of the house is a 3 bay storage building that keeps the farm equipment and has the start of a wood shop.  In back of the storage building we have dug out a large area to make an on-site pond.  Just behind that, the land rises to an impressive ridge line, where I intend to build my home.

All you would have to do is move in and become trained by me and my staff.  You will not be alone here in your operation.  There is help on site, (next door) and my volunteers are within a 45 minute drive.  Still, there must be someone here on a 24 / 7 basis to keep up with all that has to be done and to constantly look in on the dogs.

I use the term sanctuary now, because I have openly stated that I will not be taking in rescues during this year.  This is because my focus is to develop the sanctuary facilities with enough capability to do extended rescue.  An additional goal is to extend rescue operations to include adoption, but I must find a curator now to care for the 26 that we now have.  I do not want any of the ones I now have to be adopted out.  Huskies form packs and after being together for years that have become family to each other and should not be separated.  Besides, after you meet them, you will not want to give up any of the ones I have.

This breed is an active breed and a "needy" breed.  They crave activity and attention and if you don't give it to them they will find their own, and it is usually through destructive frustration.  But, to put your mind at ease, they are well trained and know their rest time and running time routine, so they will be easier to handle than most rescues.  With few exceptions (if any) they are all very friendly and lovable.  So, I will be looking for someone that has specific experience with huskies.

Right now I am the only one here on the 24 / 7 above description.  Currently, I have the fund raising ability and retirement finances to keep things together.  Additionally, I run my tax and accounting business out of the Rescue Ranch house, so you will have a fully, fully equipped "Home Office" to run your own business if you like.

If you still want to be considered after reading this, please do this for me.  Send your resume and a Cover Letter to me, telling me why you want to be considered to be the curator/successor.  My health is good enough to be with you for some time to train you in all that you need to know.  Our mailing address is:  Siberian Star Sled Dog Rescue, 1106 Hwy 60, Vincent, AL  35178.  Phone calls can be made to (205) 672-1533.  It is unlikely that I will answer your call, but you can leave a message and I will return your call.  Faxes to (205) 672-1532.

Note:  To be interviewed, those living close can drive here.   Those coming from a greater distance will be able to stay in a nice "Guest Room" we have on site.
